7:30 - 8:30 Speakers Ann Kerr-Linden and Dr. Mary Vachon
Ann was a social worker specializing in outpatient work in a psychiatric hospital. She is currently a psychotherapist in private practice and has told stories at the Toronto Festival of Storytelling. Dr. Mary Vachon is a nurse, clinical sociologist, psychotherapist, researcher, educator and cancer survivor.
Title: Jean’s Story: A personal narrative of the 1918 flu epidemic in Toronto.
Ann’s mother Jean was a 21-year-old University of Toronto student in 1918 when the flu arrived. Without previous nursing experience she found herself nursing desperately ill people. After Ann tell Jean’s story, Mary Vachon will highlight the need for us to ponder our responsibilities towards ourselves, our families, our workplaces and the larger community during a pandemic.
